*Italics = Inner Monologue*
Book 1 - Chapter 1
On the Road With A Friend
It had been a day since AJ Steele had gotten the call from New York City Championship Wrestling. He and his best friend, David now sat in the car, moving steadily down the high way, on their way to Rosemont, Illinois.
Since AJ had only been home for a few days, he had not acquired his own mode of transportation. Because of this, AJ had asked David, who was currently on unemployment, to drive him to New York to sign his contract. At first David was un willing to help his friend out, even after being offered gas money and an extra two hundred dollars.
David had gone to school to be a sports agent, but couldn't break into the business. It was to bad, because David was probably way to smart to be out of a job. The counter offer was that David was to become AJ's manager/agent.
After a few hours of convincing, AJ had agreed to let David handle his affairs outside of the ring. The only stipulation to this was that David was not allowed to speak on camera for AJ and was not to accompany AJ to the ring. David would be responsible for handling contracts, legal advice, and dealing with the NYCCW brass.
AJ was sitting in the passenger seat, dressed impeccably in a black business suit, black shirt, and red tie. His suit jacket lay across the back seat with a copy of his signed, fifty-three page NYCCW Contract laying on top of it. As the countryside passed by outside of his window, AJ was lost in thought about what had transpired.
Finally, AJ's thought process was interrupted by David. "AJ, we need to talk about how we are going to build your image here in the states. I have some ideas about the logistics of it. Attitude and personality is up to you."
AJ smiled. He had always considered himself to be pretty good on the microphone, but in this day and age, you need to be relevant twenty-four hours a day. "Alright, let me hear your ideas."
"AJ, it's really only one idea. Obviously you are going to be able to speak to the crowd at events. My idea is to promote you virally. Make an entire youtube channel dedicated to talking about up coming matches. Throw in logs about your everyday life. Tie this in with a twitter account that lets you be accessible all day, every day. Make sure that the fans know exactly who you are, and exactly what you are doing or are planning."
AJ smirked. I fucking hate twitter. Who the hell wants to know about how my shower went.
"Look David," AJ said, continuing to stare out the window, "I can handle the youtube thing. But I vehemently detest twitter. I am not updating a stupid ass site on the internet every five minutes. Videos are great, but twitter can blow me."
David shook his head. "Ok, no twitter. Now, can we stop at a hotel. It's getting late and I would love..."
AJ cut him off with a wave of his hand. "No. We both know you would love to get tanked off the mini bar. But I am going to end up paying for the shit. So, I suggest we drive straight through to Illinois. We can get a hotel there, bust out the video camera in my bag, and get our first video done."
David smiled, quietly appreciating how AJ was always all about business. "look, you know I like to throw a few back, but come on. I am now your agent. Business first. We'll get to Illinois asap, ok."
AJ smiled, drifting off into though about what his first youtube video would be about. He was sure he could get some attention. Well, I might not have a match, but that won't slow me down too much. Time to let the world know exactly who they are messing with.
