I loved re-watching my matches. Call it arrogance if you want but I call it pride, and a way to learn not only my own mistakes but my opponents as well. I knew most of Cameron’s moves, since it was my father that taught him a lot of them….but we’ll save that story for another day.
Today, I was preparing myself for that tag match where Tank and I will slaughter Cameron and Taufik. Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t excited about being partnered with Tank. He was a good fighter and I appreciated his help on Saturday but I chose my partners carefully. Very carefully…. I smirked.
My phone rings and I pick it up.
“Hello?”
“Yeah I saw it.”
“Yes it was exactly what I was looking for…yes it worked perfectly.”
“It won’t be long and then everything will turn out the way we want it to. You won’t be disappointed. Yes, yes…you will get that chance, and you’ll blow them all away.”
“Okay well I gotta go.”
I hang up my phone and go back to reviewing. The phone call is one I was waiting for and things are moving forward.
I take out the tape from Saturday and put in a one from a match that Tank was in. Part of knowing my opponents, is also knowing my partner. I happen to put in the one where he interferes in a match with Rye and Drake. Low and behold, Lexi is there too, pulling Tank out.
If I was correct, Drake shouldn’t have won that match and in all fairness Rye should still be the empire state champion. But…Rye seemed to have moved on because he was more interested in the world belt. I suppose that would leave that option open in the future, that is if Hacker didn’t destroy Drake at the PPV. So many options and opportunities. But first…
My main concern was of course destroying Drake and Rage but sadly that would have to wait a while, I had to work my way up so Cameron would have to do. Besides…I wasn’t exactly finished reeking havoc on him anyway. Taufik, well he was just a shit for brains wannabe up and comer that would just have to become a casualty of war. Unfortunate because if he would ‘come over to the dark side’ he might just make something of himself. Instead he’s sticking to this holier than thou concept that was going to get him squashed under Tank’s heavy boot. So very sad.
Cameron…ha the washed up MMA fighter that just couldn’t cut it anymore. Had his title taken by some unknown. It was like he just gave up. Not saying that I wasn’t happy about it. I’d actually made a point of being at that match in person too, just didn’t let him know I was there. I’d laughed so hard that the couple next to me had looked at me like I was on crazy pills. Maybe I was but when my whole plan had worked its way to the end, I’d be the one on top and then who would be the crazy one? It actually worked out perfectly since I had eventually planned on finding Cameron again at some point. Just means I could beat the shit out of him without him pressing charges.
I watched some more matches before I got bored of it all and left the viewing room at HQ. I hear talking and catch a glimpse of Lexi. She’s coming out of Turner’s office. She thanks him before leaving and walking toward the opposite end of the hallway. My jaw drops. What is she wearing? The boots put her well over 6’2. The Skirt barely leaves anything to the imagination. I hadn’t seen her wear clothing like that since….Oh…I see. She’s letting her anger out. About time.
I close the viewing room door a little too hard so that it makes her stop and peer around her shoulder. She frowns and rolls her eyes when she see’s that it’s me. She continues to walk away but I run after her.
“What do you want?” she says and I can detect the anger in her voice. Good.
“Just wanted to make sure you were okay.” I say.
“Really? Do I look okay?” she sighs angrily. I take a good look at her face. Even with all the makeup she’s wearing it’s not hard to make out how swollen and discoloured her perfect nose is.
“Well at least it wasn’t Laura that did that to you….” I offer. She sighs loudly.
“Again, what do you want Justin?”
“You look good.” I offer.
She smiles. “Flattery will get you everywhere.” The voice is not normal for her. It’s the voice I had heard so many times watching her in her younger wrestling days. It was the voice of the old Lexi, the one that had attracted Rage to her.
“Look, I’m sorry that you don’t agree with my point of view.”
“No you’re not.”
“I can’t help the way I feel. I just get a bad vibe from Drake…apparently I’m not the only one. I just think you could do better…”
“Like who? You?”
“Well…yeah…”
She stops and faces me.
“Justin, listen. No matter what happens between Drake and I, I will never get back together with you. Never.”
I want to punch her. Punch her right in her broken nose. But instead, I grab her and force her to kiss me. It takes her off guard and for a couple seconds it’s heaven until she pushes me away. The look on her face, instead of the passion I long to see, is one of pity.
“I don’t want to actually hurt you Justin and it was a mistake to ask you to sleep with me 6 months ago.” She wipes her mouth.
Exactly what I thought she would say.
“So what you think you’re too good for me now is that it?”
“No. I think that we just don’t fit well together. We were fine when we were teenagers but I just can’t handle how jealous you get all the freakin time….that and I can’t be the one to always be holding the leash on your anger.”
So the truth finally comes out. She has an issue with my anger.
“What about Drake? He’s more of a head case then I am.”
“It’s different and you know it. Stop finding reasons to beat up anybody who shows interest in me…oh wait. I seem to remember you trying to pick a fight with Ryan way back when and him almost breaking your arm and giving you a black eye. Do you recall that?”
I did. He had an unfair advantage.
“And for the record, I’ll say it again. There was nothing going on between Cam and I. What you did to him…and your Dad….it was horrible.”
“Bullshit Lexi.” I spit out. She wipes her face and glares at me.
“Really? What the hell did you think was going on?”
“I saw the way he looked at you. The way you and he flirted with each other.”
“First of all, you and I were broken up and second….you know what, never mind. I don’t have to explain any of this to you. Just stay the hell out of my life.”
She starts to walk away.
“Maybe you are nothing but a slut, like everyone says you are. Look at the way you dressed just to talk to Turner. Did you screw him too?”
She turns and I don’t think I’ve ever seen her that angry before. I’m thinking she’s going to yell at me but before I know it, I’m doubled over. She’s punched me hard right in the gut. She leans down to whisper in my ear.
“Doesn’t matter what you or anybody else thinks of me Justin because the truth of the matter is that you can squirm every night thinking about the fact that you’ll never get to fuck this again.”
She stands up and walks away and to be honest, even though the pain is shooting up my body I’ve never been more proud or turned on in my life. She only needed a little more prodding and she might do a complete turn and then she’d be mine for good. I lean against the wall for what seems like hours.
“Justin!” I hear my name and I groan. It’s her…again. Why does she always seem to show up at the worse possible times?
London is leaning down and in my face, a worried look in her blue eyes. “Are you okay? What happened?”
“Nothing. I’m fine.” She helps me to right myself. Obviously Lexi is long gone but there’s no point in telling London about what just happened. I had to admit, next to Lexi she is one of the most beautiful women working here….and at least she actually wanted to be in my life….ahh, what was I saying. The woman was a stage 2 clinger and I had to get rid of her ASAP.
“I’ll be fine.” I say and start to walk. I think the punch took me more by surprise then anything. I hadn’t expected Lexi to do something like that.
London is babbling in my ear as we walk toward the front entrance. I don’t recall half of what she’s saying. It would be so much better if she just didn’t talk.
“So do you think you’d want to do that?” she asks. Shit.
“Ah, sure babe.”
“Great, then I’ll meet you at your hotel in about an hour.” She pulls my head toward hers to kiss me and then bounces away back toward the lockers. Oh damn…what had I just agreed to?
I sigh deeply before leaving and grabbing a cab back to the hotel. Walking in, I see something I definitely wasn’t expecting. A man I wanted to beat the shit out of was sitting in the front lobby and he looks absolutely crazy with rage…almost as crazy as the last time he shoved me into a wall and knocked me out. Fuck me…
He stands and walks over to me.
“What do you want?” I say with an eye roll. I don’t have time for his melodrama shit.
“I would beat you right here if my girlfriend hadn’t already done it.”
I laughed.
“Don’t you ever touch her again. Do you hear me?” Drake looks like he’s about push me through the glass windows in the front lobby.
“And she says I’m the jealous one…” I’m still smirking and it only enrages him more.
“This has nothing to do with me being jealous. Try a move like that again and I will end you.”
I shake my head and the smirk hasn’t left my face. “I have no intention of it. When she’s ready she’ll come to me.”
Drake shoves me and suddenly there are security guards surrounding us.
“Hey… if you are going to fight take it outside.” One of them booms.
Drake holds up his hands. “We’re done here.” He glares at me and turns to walk toward the elevators.
“Thanks guys…I really thought he was going to go crazy and like push me out the window or something.” I shake the guy’s hand, giving me enough time for Drake to be on his way to his room.
Now to prepare myself for whatever it is that London wanted to do….God help me.
